The Department of Biochemistry was established in 1997 and from a mere undergraduate department, the Department becomes a PG department since 2000 andoffered M.Phil from 2006. keeping in tunes with the trends of time, in the year 2016 the Department was upgraded as research department. The Department has a well equipped and sophisticated equipmentsand instruments essential for biochemical investigations. since its inception, has contributed a lot in terms of teaching, learning and research. The Department has research projects funded by UGC and TNSCST.

The curriculum strives to produce students of the highest calibre while staying up to date on the most recent developments in the relevant fields. Extension programs such as conferences, workshops, seminars, and symposia are periodically conducted on topics of relevance by the department to make forays into newer pertinent imparting high quality education to the students, continues to modify and evolve processes which can effectively address the changing situations with short and long term goals by utilising the resources at the career center(Animal House, FIST Lab and DKMCFRI).
