The Department of Commerce (Aided) was established in 1976 with full sanctioned strength in the undergraduate degree. In the initial years, it was under the Headship of Bargavi Ammal Menon. Later the staff members in the Department of Commerce were increased and the classes were handled by Mrs.K.Nappinai, Dr.S.Mythili, Dr.S.Suseela, Dr.R.Padmaja, Dr.A.Sudarvizhi, Dr.T.Bharathi, Dr.G.Bhavani and D.K.Vinithi. Due to the excessive demand for the seats in Commerce, B.Com course at unaided stream was introduced in both UG and PG in the year 1997. Research degrees such as M.Phil. and Ph.D. were introduced during 2007 and 2013 respectively to give flexibility and freedom to the scholars and to carry out original quality of research in the Department of Commerce. The research activities are vibrant in the department ultimately leading to societal progress and innovation. Further, in the year 2015 B.Com (CA) was introduced to have a blend of both business and technology skill, which opens up to numerous career paths.
