Report on One day Seminar

                One day seminar on “Applications of Physics in various Fields” was organized by Department of Physics, DKM College for Women (Autonomous),Vellore on 16th March 2018. The Department requested Dr. R. Vadamalar, Asst. Professor, Department of Physics, GMAC, Vellore and Mr. A. Ubaithulla Baig, Head & Assistant Professor,Department of Physics, Mailam  Engg. College, Mailam to be the Resource Persons for the one day Seminar.

 After the inaguration, first lecture was started at 10.15 A.M by Dr. R. Vadamalar, Asst. Professor, Department of Physics, GMAC, Vellore who had delivered the lecture on “Applications of Ultrasonics”.  The lecture gave information about the present applications of ultrasonics in various fields. She also added several medicinal applications in interior regions of human body, which remains unexplored, inspite of its usefulness in specific ailment that are used traditionally.

The next lecture was delivered by Mr.A. Ubaithulla Baig, Head & Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Mailam  Engg.  College,Mailam entitled “Basics of Nanotechnology”.

He elaborated that the nanomaterials are probably more deep-seated in our culture than most of us realize. Transportation, housing, clothing communication, reaction and food production and virtually every segment of our daily lives is influenced to one degree or another by materials. He also discussed that the nanomaterials have contributed to the advancement of a number of technologies, including medicine and health, information and communication, national security and space, transportation, structural materials, arts and literature, textiles, personal hygiene, agriculture and food science and the environment.

  Valedictory function was started at 12.45 P.M. Annual report of the Physics Association was read by Ms. B. Sangamithra, (I Maths) Association Secretary followed by feedback session. Dr. R. Vadamalar, Asst. Professor, Department of Physics, GMAC, Vellore distributed the attendance certificate to the participants.

REPORT FOR THE IV- NATIONAL CONFERENCE

5TH JANUARY 2018

The national level conference on “Emerging trends in Chemical and Biological Sciences” was conducted by the department of chemistry on 5th January 2018 under UGC autonomous fund.

More than 185 delegates from various institutions and companies and 255 candidates from the host college registered to participate in the conference. The inaugural session was started with the prayer song and lighting the kuthuvillakku.

The welcome address was given by Mrs. N. Thenmozhi, HOD of chemistry. Dr. M. Nagarathinam, Organising secretary explained about the theme of the conference. Dr. P. N. Sudha, Principal gave the presidential address. The souvenir was released by our secretary Thiru D. Maninathan.

Dr. K. Subramani, Associate Professor of chemistry, Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi delivered the inaugural address. Our secretary Thiru D. Maninathan felicitated the gathering. Dr. T. Gomathi, Organising secretary gave vote of thanks.

The first key note address on the topic “ Newer Chemical Entities as Therapeutic Agents”  was delivered by Dr. M. G. Sethuraman, Professor of Chemistry and Director, IQAC, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dinigul. He explained about the quantitative molecular modeling and data search which are the methods of Computer Aided Drug Design (CADD).

The second key note address on the topic “ Process Chemistry: Introduction and Innovation”  was delivered by Dr. M. Suresh Babu, Scientist, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited, Hyderabad. He explained about the development of Drug substances or Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) which involve linear synthesis or convergent synthesis with multiple steps. He explained about the process feasibility and process optimization which are the sequence of steps involved in the development of any API.

Totally 52 abstracts were accepted and published in the souvenir and they were called upon to present their research articles in the conference. Paper presentation was started in the afternoon session. 15 research papers were presented by the research scholars. There were 15 poster presentations. The presentations were judged by the judges on the basis of innovations, way of presentation, characterization and applications of their work.

The valedictory session was started with the welcome address given by Dr. N. Dhanam, Assistant Professor of Chemistry. Dr. P. N. Sudha, Principal, D. K. M. College, Vellore gave valedictory address and distributed the prizes for the prize winners and certificates for the participants from various institutions.

The feedback was given by the participants from various institutions. They appreciated the excellent arrangements and hospitality rendered by the department of chemistry and asked to continue this in the forthcoming years also. The conference ended with the National Anthem.

Report of the Science Academies Lecture Workshop on “Materials Physics and Chemistry” March 09-10, 2018 

A two day Science Academies Lecture Workshop was held in DKM College for Women (A), Vellore – 632 001, March 09-10, 2018. The Lecture Workshop was organized by Department of Physics, DKM College for Women (A) in association with Science Academies Bangalore under the leadership of Prof. S. Natarajan, Solid State & Structural Chemistry Unit (SSCU), Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bangalore as Convener and Dr. N. Jabena Begum, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, DKM College for Women (A), Vellore as Coordinator.

The aim of this Science Academies’ lecture Workshop on “Materials Physics and Chemistry”, a highly multidisciplinary topic of contemporary research interests among various scientific disciplines ranging from physics, chemistry, materials, nanotechnology, etc. This workshop also aims to provide a good platform for researchers, academicians and scientist to discuss share and promote their research work in the field of Materials science and Nanotechnology.

In this Science Academies’ lecture-workshop, a total of 8 lectures (each of the 4 resource persons gave 2 lectures on each day) of 90 minutes duration (75 min lecture & 15 min discussion) were delivered by the four eminent Indian scientists/teachers covering the fundamental aspects and applications of Materials in various fields. About 200 participants (faculty, Research Scholars and PG students) were actively present in this two days’ event.

Modern Techniques in Historical Research

 

The department of History conducted a special Guest Lecture on 23/02/2018 at 10.00 am. Resource Person Dr. M. Hilaria Soundari, M.S.W., Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Centre for Applied Research, School of Health Science and Rural Development, Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed to be University), Dindigal District, Tamilnadu, delivered a Lecture on “Modern Techniques in Historical Research”. Chief Guest was welcomed by Dr. A. Amirthavalli HOD of Department of History. Dr.P.N. Sudha felicitated the Chief Guest and Mrs S. Jayanthi delivered the vote of thanks.

Chief Guest  clearly explained about historical Research, its types such as Historical Event Research, Historical Process Research, Cross –Sectional Comparative Research and Comparative Historical Research. Sister Hillaria even stated about kinds of Research Fellowship. Further Sister elaborately narrated of webliographies like CD-Rom,HTML-Encoded Texts, Hypertexts, Secondary works and Indexes. She further added Netnography and more advance packages of Qualtrics, Question pro, Limesurvey and keysurvey. All these were very useful for P.G., Ph.D., Scholars and Staff.

The Department of History and Economics  in collabration with  Mr Joshap Raj , J R Travel Solutions, Vellore, conducted E- Tourism Certificate Course from 29/1/2018 to 14/2/2018.   Nearly 52 students of III B.A., History  got benefited  .Practical sessions  like booking  on line tickets training was given.

The Department of English as part of its association activities organized a guest lecture on the topic Literature as a Means to an End on 07-02-2018 in the D’ Conference Hall. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp and invoking God’s presence through a prayer service.Ms. V. P. Gayathri, Head, Department of English welcomed the gathering with her warm and cordial words.

e 5 The programme was divided into two sessions. Dr. A. Ganesan, Assistant professor of English, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Chennai began the first session.

E 3 He emphasized on the importance of literature for both life and language. The way literature permeates various spheres of life was beautifully illustrated with various quotes from literary sources. He reiterated the importance of reading throughout his lecture. The second session was an interactive session with grammar exercises. Many students were made to participate in these activities. It encouraged them to learn grammar through games and group activities. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Indira Gandhi. The whole programme was organized by Ms. V. P. Gayathri, Head Dept. of English and her team in the department.
