Modern Techniques in Historical Research

 

The department of History conducted a special Guest Lecture on 23/02/2018 at 10.00 am. Resource Person Dr. M. Hilaria Soundari, M.S.W., Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Centre for Applied Research, School of Health Science and Rural Development, Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed to be University), Dindigal District, Tamilnadu, delivered a Lecture on “Modern Techniques in Historical Research”. Chief Guest was welcomed by Dr. A. Amirthavalli HOD of Department of History. Dr.P.N. Sudha felicitated the Chief Guest and Mrs S. Jayanthi delivered the vote of thanks.

Chief Guest  clearly explained about historical Research, its types such as Historical Event Research, Historical Process Research, Cross –Sectional Comparative Research and Comparative Historical Research. Sister Hillaria even stated about kinds of Research Fellowship. Further Sister elaborately narrated of webliographies like CD-Rom,HTML-Encoded Texts, Hypertexts, Secondary works and Indexes. She further added Netnography and more advance packages of Qualtrics, Question pro, Limesurvey and keysurvey. All these were very useful for P.G., Ph.D., Scholars and Staff.

The Department of History and Economics  in collabration with  Mr Joshap Raj , J R Travel Solutions, Vellore, conducted E- Tourism Certificate Course from 29/1/2018 to 14/2/2018.   Nearly 52 students of III B.A., History  got benefited  .Practical sessions  like booking  on line tickets training was given.

The Department of English as part of its association activities organized a guest lecture on the topic Literature as a Means to an End on 07-02-2018 in the D’ Conference Hall. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp and invoking God’s presence through a prayer service.Ms. V. P. Gayathri, Head, Department of English welcomed the gathering with her warm and cordial words.

e 5 The programme was divided into two sessions. Dr. A. Ganesan, Assistant professor of English, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Chennai began the first session.

E 3 He emphasized on the importance of literature for both life and language. The way literature permeates various spheres of life was beautifully illustrated with various quotes from literary sources. He reiterated the importance of reading throughout his lecture. The second session was an interactive session with grammar exercises. Many students were made to participate in these activities. It encouraged them to learn grammar through games and group activities. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Indira Gandhi. The whole programme was organized by Ms. V. P. Gayathri, Head Dept. of English and her team in the department.

ONE DAY STATE LEVEL SEMINAR
on
“RECENT TRENDS IN MATHEMATICS”

            The Department of Mathematics organized one day State level Seminar on the topic “RECENT TRENDS IN MATHEMATICS” on 19.02.18.  UG, PG students and Research scholars of Mathematics of about 530 in number attended the seminar. The Faculty members and students from other colleges also participated and benefited from this programme. The meeting started with prayer at 9.30 a.m. in a traditional way and the kuthuvilakku was lit by the Chief Guests.

The resource person for the first session was Dr. G. Thangaraj, Ph.D., HOD & Professor of Mathematics, Thiruvalluvar University, Serkadu . He addressed the students on “The History of Mathematics ,Euler’s Identities, theoretical and practical results on Identities”.

m 35 m 47The Resource person for the second session was Dr. M. Chitra, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Mathematics, Thiruvalluvar University, Serkadu. She elaborately discussed about “The Mathematical Modelling on Bio-Mathematics”. She inspired the Faculty members and students to know more about Bio-Mathematics.

m 3 The Resource person for the third session was Dr.K. Thirugnanasambatham , Ph.D., Assistant  Professor of Mathematics, Muthurangam Arts and Science College, Vellore. He addressed the gathering on “Fallacies and Fuzzy Mathematics”.

m 15 The students were highly motivated by attending the seminar. Mathematics department conducted Oratorical competition and Essay Writing Competition on the topic “The Applications of Mathematics and The Great Mathematicians” for B.Sc. Mathematics students on 16.02.18 and prizes were distributed on 19.02.2018.

Extension Activity- PG & Research Department of Chemistry – 10/01/2018

PG & Research Department of Chemistry has conducted extension activities on 10.01.18 at Government School, Edayansathu, Vellore-2. All our I M.Sc, II M.Sc and M.Phil Chemistry students were actively participated in this event. The Program commenced with prayer song by our II M.Sc Chemistry students.

The objective of this school visit was

  • To motivate the school students in the field of science especially in chemistry.
  • To encourage the students and also to provide a platform for the students to gain extra scientific knowledge.
  • To become aware of the recent innovations in field of Science.

On behalf of Department of Chemistry, D.K.M College for Women,                Vellore-1, Dr.K.Vijayalakshmi,  Assistant Professor of Chemistry, invited all the teachers and students for this program with her enthusiastic speech.

This program was inaugurated by Mrs. Sathyabama, Headmistress of the Government School, Edayansathu, Vellore-2.

 Followed by this all our department staff members Dr. T.Gomathi, Mrs.J.Saranya, Mrs. G.Aswini and Mrs. R.Bharathi Priyadharsini presented a memento to Mrs. Satyabama, Headmistress of the Government School, Edayansathu, as a token of love.

Skits

Two Skits were performed by the students focusing on effects of methane gas and drugs. The students were encouraged and motivated towards “Traditional food” and “Protection of the agriculture”. Audience enjoyed a lot and they expressed their ideas.

Exhibition

Exhibition was conducted about the causes and remedies of different types of pollution, wastewater treatment methodologies and also the general awareness about science, medicine, physical mechanism of working engine, natural beauty tips were given by the PG and M.Phil Students.

Science videos

Basic principles of science were discussed with the students by showing science videos.

Quiz Competition

Quiz competition was conducted among the students. Totally 10 teams were involved actively, IQ and EQ based questions were asked. Students were participated more enthusiastically and dynamically. Out of 10 batches, best three teams were selected for first prize, second prize and third prize.

Games were conducted for the students to enhance the physical activity and also to refresh them.

Valedictory Session

          The valedictory session of this program was started at around 4 pm and the valedictory address was given by Mr.G.Muthusamy, President, Parent Teacher Association and Counselor of Edayansathu.                                      In his speech, he congratulated the students and staff of DKM College for giving nice programs to the students and also he encouraged and motivated the students to concentrate well on the studies with creative ideas. Prizes were given to the Winners by him and Mrs. Satyabama, Headmistress of the School.

On behalf of Department of Chemistry, D.K.M College for Women, Dr.K.Vijayalakshmi expressed sincere gratitude to Mrs. Satyamabama, Headmistress, Governent School, Edayansathu, Vellore, Teaching and Non Teaching staff of Governent School, Edayansathu, for providing opportunity to give such a wonderful program to the students. All of them expressed their gratitude to us and finally the program ended with the National Anthem.

Really it was a breathtaking and wonderful moment for us… We had a Great Time…

Sister Nivedita’s Sesquicentennial Celebrations on 13.02.2018

Sesquicentennial Celebrations of Sister Nivedita was held at our College on 13.02.2018. The Chariot housing the statue Sister Nivedita and Swamy Vivekananda reached the college at 9.30 am. Our Secretary and Principal garlanded the statues.615

On the same day Pulavar T.Ramalingam, Advocate, High court, Chennai addressed the gatherings at D-Block Conference Hall.

Muthamizh Vizha of our College

The Muthamizh vizha was Celebrated in a grand manner in the open air Auditorium of our college. The Chief guest was Dr.N.Ilangovan, Head, Department of Tamil  (Retd.), Government Arts College, Mallur, Madurai inaugurated the programme by lighting of kuthuvilakku and delivered special address on the theme  ‘Tamil Literature &Grammer.’

The programme was followed by “Human Library” programe. Dr.Ameenal Bibi Associate Professorof Mathematics delivered a critical review of the chief guest Ilangovan’s books. The vizha concluded with the National Anthem.

Around 2000 students participated in the programt 4
