INAGURATION OF FREE COACHING CLASSES FOR UPSC/TNPSC/IAS/IPS COMPETITIVE EXAMS AND FREE BOOK BANK ORGANISED ON 07.07.2017

Mr. D. Sengottaiyan MVSC, District Revenue Officer Vellore was the chief guest. He Inaugurated the free coaching centre for the present and Alumnae students of DKM College to take up the central and state level UPSC/TNPSC/IAS/IPS competitive exams. Also the Free book bank facility for the benefit for the present students was inaugurated by him. In his Inaugural address, he highlighted the need and role of women in the competitive exams and their role in the Nation’s development. He gave tips to face the competitive exams easily without any fear. He shared his own experiences while taking up the TNPSC Exams which was admired by the students.

Mr. Senthilkumar M.A,M.Sc,IMBA, from Employment office  Vellore, spoke on “How to the Face Competitive Exams”. He gave tips on how to prepare oneself for quantitative and aptitude tests and how to get ready for the competitive exams. l 37

The CAREER  AWARENESS PROGRAM ON THE COURSE COMPANY SECRETARY  was organized by the Department of Commerce on 18.07.2017 Tuesday  in the D-BLOCK CONFERENCE HALL  at 10.00 am.        The programme started with Tamil Thai Vazhthu.   Dr. R.Padmaja, Head, Department of Commerce(aided) welcomed the gathering. Dr. P.N.Sudha, Principal gave the words of felicitation. Ms.Nishita Singhal, Assistant Director,ICSI-SIRC , Bengaluru was the resource person of the day. She gave a detailed PPT  presentation on the various job offers available after completion of UG,PG and Research courses in commerce. She underlined the qualities required to be employable in the job market. She highlighted the need of qualified company secretaries in the future. Queries of the student were cleared by the resource person then and there. After the interaction and feedback session vote of thanks     was proposed by Dr. A.Sudarvizhi. Around 250 students participated in the awareness session and got benefited. Dr.T.Bharathi, compeered the programme. By 12.30 pm the programme ended with the National  Anthem.

Report on “Inauguration of the College Union and its Allied Associations (Aided)”.

The Inauguration of the College Union and its Allied Associations (Aided) was held on 14th  July 2017 at 10.00 am.  The welcome address and the introduction of the chief guest were given by our Principal, Dr.P.N.Sudha.

Placement Awareness Program on 8.7.2017.

 An awareness programme was conducted by Placement cell of our college on 08.07.2017 . Mr. Senthil Kumar, Skill development trainer, Employment  office,  Vellore was the guest of the day and he motivated the students on the development of various skills related to job.

REPORT FOR THE III-NATIONAL CONFERENCE

On

RECENT TRENDS IN CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

(In Commemoration of National Science Day)

 

The National Conference on “Recent Trends in chemical and Biological Sciences” was conducted by the Department of Chemistry on 2nd March 2017 (Friday) funded by  UGC-Autonomous.

More than 300 delegates from various Institutions and companies registered   to participate in the conference.  The inaugural session was started with the prayer song by UG Chemistry Students followed by lighting of the Kuthuvilaku by the dignitaries.

Dr.N. Thenmozhi, Head of the Department of Chemistry,  delivered the welcome address in which she expressed her sincere gratitude to the chief guests  .Dr.C. Ramanathan, Assistant professor of Chemistry, School of Physical, Chemical and Applied Sciences, Pondicherry University, Dr.K. Parthasarathy, Research Officer, Siddha Central Research Institute, Central Council for Research in Siddha, Ministry of Ayush, Arumbakam, Thiru.D.Maninathan, Secretary and Dr.P.N.Sudha, Principal, D.K.M College for Women (Autonomous), Vellore-1. She also welcomed the gathering.

The presidential address was delivered by Dr.P.N Sudha, Principal, D.K.M College for Women (Autonomous), Vellore-1. Madam highlighted the importance of women empowerment, women noble laureates and also encouraged the students to take up research in future. She also appreciated the Department of Chemistry for conducting the conference in a short duration of time.

The theme of the conference was presented by Dr.K.Vijayalakshmi,    Assistant Professor of Chemistry. She highlighted the quotes of Edward Teller: “Science of today is the technology of tomorrow”. She emphasized the importance of celebrating  National Science Day, on 28th February, in commemoration with the discovery of  Raman Effect by Indian Physicist Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman. She added that this conference will pave an ideal platform for the youth to share and discuss recent findings   in research.

The souvenir was released by the Secretary Thiru.D. Maninathan and it was received by the chief guest Dr. C. Ramanathan and Dr.P.N. Sudha, Principal. While giving the felicitations, he congratulated the department of chemistry for arranging such a conference. Dr.M. Nagarathinam, Associate Professor of Chemistry proposed the Vote of Thanks.

In the first technical session Dr.C.R.Ramanathan was welcomed and introduced by Dr. S. Sashikala, Assistant Professor of Chemistry. He delivered the keynote address on the topic “Designing Novel Chiral Molecules for Asymmetric Organocatalysis”. He explained about the importance of the study of the chiral molecules on organic reactions. He also discussed the conceptual way of designing, synthesizing of chiral molecules and its applications in various fields. Mrs.R.Bharathi Priyadarshini, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, proposed the vote of thanks to Dr.C.R.Ramanathan.

 

In the second technical session, Dr.T.Gomathi, Assistant Professor of Chemistry welcomed and introduced the Chief guest Dr.K.Parthasarathy, Research Officer, Siddha Central Research Institute, Central Council for Research in Siddha, Ministry of Ayush, Arumbakam, Chennai. The chief guest Dr.K.Parthasarathy, delivered the keynote address on the topic “Structural characterization of drug substances by using modern spectroscopic techniques”. He explained about “Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients” used in Pharmacological activities and also discussed about quality, safety, and efficacy of the drug.  Mrs.J.Saranya, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, proposed the vote of thanks for his enthusiastic talk and motivations for the women students to become a researcher in industry and she also thanked the participants for their outstanding interactions.

Totally 80 abstracts were accepted to be published in the souvenir and the scholars were called upon to present their papers in the conference for oral / poster. Posters were exhibited in PG chemistry lab and oral presentations were conducted in the conference hall in two sessions. Dr.S.Guganathan, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Muthurangam College for Arts, Vellore and Dr. Caleb Nobel Chander, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Voorhees College, Vellore acted as judge for the poster as well as oral presentation.

Mrs. G. Aswini, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, made arrangements for                             the distribution of certificates and prize. In the valedictory session, Dr.N.Thenmozhi, and Dr.S. Guganathan distributed the prizes and certificates to the winners for poster presentation. Dr.K. Parthasarathy and Dr. Caleb Nobel Chander distributed the prizes and certificates to the winners for oral presentations. The feedback form was distributed to the students and outside participants. The participants mentioned that the invited lectures and the paper presentation were highly informative, for the students as well as for the researchers. They appreciated the hospitality and excellent arrangements made by the institution.

Finally the Vote of thanks was given by Dr.S. Santha Lakshmi, Assistant Professor of Chemistry. She thanked each and every one who had contributed to make the conference a grand success. She personally extended her thanks to the invited chief guests,  judges, colleagues, audio-visual supporter, photographer, professors from various colleges and students for gracing the occasion for grand success. Finally the conference ended with the National Anthem.

The Department of English as a team under the leadership of Ms. V.P. Gayathri, HOD organized a guest lecture on 03.03.2017. The chief Guest Dr. Neena Mano , Assistant Professor, Department of English, Bharathi Women’s College, Chennai delivered a  lecture on the topic “ Language and Literature: Interpretation to Communication”.

 

The event began with invoking the blessings of the Almighty.  Ms. V.P. Gayathri, Head, Department of English welcomed the gathering and  Dr. P. N . Sudha, Principal, DKM College for Women,  delivered the presidential address. Dr. M. Manimozhi , Assistant Professor and Ms. S. Monisha Guest lecturer acted as the masters of ceremony. A key feature of the event was the inauguration of the literary club “LETTERS” by  Dr. Neena Mano and the Principal Dr.P.N. Sudha.

 

The chief Guest Dr. Neena Mano  addressed the students on how to develop language skills on their own. Her speech was divided into three parts. In the first part, she focused on how to develop the LSRW skills. In the second part she distributed pictures to the students and she asked them to scrutinize the picture after which they were asked to speak about the picture.  Then she compared the act of reading the picture to the act of reading a book viz., first one scans a book, then looks for a specific point and then critically analyzes it. In the last part she covered the recent trends in literature with a special focus on postcolonial theory, binary oppositions and the centre-margin dynamics .

 

Prizes and certificates were distributed to winners of various competitions like Essay, poetry recitation, poster presentation, spell – bee, power point presentation, literary pageant and so on  which were conducted as  part of the activities of the English Association for the academic year  2016-2017. The prize distribution was followed by a student’s cultural programme.

 

The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. M.Gayathri Assistant Professor, Department of English, followed by the National Anthem.
